Newsradio khandi alexander why leave

Then on May 28, , Phil Hartman was killed by her wife in a murder suicide while he slept. With this act, not only Phil was killed but also the show. The show lasted one more season with Jon Lovitz as a replacement. But he could never erase the sadness of Phil's death or replace the magnitude of Phil's talent. Was this review helpful? But each is only detail. It is a great serie because it has the rare virtue to be part of ordinary life reflections. And this is just great. The show hit the ground running with the first season as a mid-season replacement with seven episodes of hilarity, dealing with Dave's first day on the job when he has to fire the previous station manager, his new secret liaison with Lisa, and the arrival of his ex who doesn't know she's his ex yet.

Season 2 is amazingly great as well. This was one of the best comedies ever and only lost steam with the tragic senseless death of Phil Hartman. He was a great guy and a funny funny man.

He is missed. Best Commentary: the one for episode 8 is great. Aaron 22 February I do not wish to disparage Jon Lovitz, it has less to do with the introduction of his character that the show kind of fell apart at the end for me and more for the fact it just sort of depressing after the untimely death of Hartman.

Bill McNeil was my favorite character on the show and while everyone else played their parts well it just was not the same without him. Before he passed on though this show was simply great and funny, though I have to say work related shows tend to be better in my opinion than shows that center around families and simply friends. The shows first episode is rather interesting as there are a couple of different things going on as the maintenance man is different and the whole appearance of the show was a bit off compared to the rest too.

Still, it marked the beginning of a very good show that was cut short by most likely to many schedule changes and those copy cat shows that tried to emulate the early success of this one.

That show Brooke Shields did during this time seemed almost a duplicate right down to the red head. The episodes in this one ran mostly hot, with the occasional cold episode. Most of the cast was on fire, however Andy Dick's character sometimes proved to be a bit to much. Khandi Alexander left a bit of void when she left, however the show probably had to many characters as it was so it probably was best she left as the show had enough people to focus on.

My favorite episode though had to be when Dave got obsessed with playing that video game Stargate and I also like the one where Bill is locked up in the loony bin and Jon Lovitz was in that one too and did a good job. All in all a great show that ended prematurely. Sylviastel 27 August I really miss Newsradio because it was a great cast of eccentric characters and writers who knew how to write. The cast included Phil Hartman who was better known for his roles on Saturday Night Live during this tenure.

He was a comic genius and sorely missed by his fans. The other cast members included Canada's Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall, Vicki Lewis as the useless secretary, Maura Tierney as the serious, intelligent and love interest of Dave's character. The show's eccentric characters worked well together.

When Phil's real life tragic death occurred, the cast and crew worked to remember him fondly and brought in fellow Saturday Night Live alum and close friend of Phil's, Jon Lovitz to replace the void.

Of course, the show lasted a year. Much like another NBC sitcom, the show never truly recovered emotionally and maybe the audience couldn't get past it. We did accept and love Jon not as Phil's replacement. Fine TV show rbverhoef 10 November Lisa Miller Maura Tierney is very beautiful and of course very funny as well. Unfortunately Phil Hartman was killed and the show had to run for one last season without him. Jon Lovitz joined but the show was not the same anymore.

Still a great comedy! KUAlum26 5 August Hartman as well. Through the whole four year run of this show,I feel like the comic timing and writing was very strong. Everyone in the cast--even the future "Fear FActor" host Joe Rogan--was very effective in conveying an office full of selfish,short-sighted news workers on the WNYX staff. Phil Hartman's presence, and then absence,on the show was heavily felt, and as game as Jon Lovitz was in stepping in for Phil,it just wasn't quite the same.

To be fair and sure,I don't believe that Hartman's death ALONE caused the show to either go down the tubes which in all truth,it didn't. MHO or get canceled. I feel like NBC gave up on the show almost as soon as the rating showed any signs of dipping, and given the fact that the network moved the show no fewer than three times in its run Tuesdays to Sundays to Wednsdays,as I recall ,then I believe they also bear some responsibility in this show's early demise, too.

In short,I believe that "NewsRadio" is one of the best sitcoms to come out of the nineties and am happy to see that it's made it to DVD at last. I believe someday I may rent, even purchase the show's episodes on DVD. Until then,I think I'll just do the cheap thing and see if I can run across it in reruns again.

NBC cancelled this? NewsRadio was an excellent and clever show, yet it was cancelled while shows like Suddenly Susan which when you really think about it rips off NewsRadio got to continue.

What's with that? Granted, the series never recovered from the loss of Phil Hartman, but NewsRadio was still good and way better than other shows on NBC or any other networks. The cast was great, especially Phil Hartman. Jon Lovitz was not as good as Phil Hartman, but he was a good replacement and funny. My favorite episode would be the one where Bill gets a piano and sings hilarious songs about the government and Dave keeps trying to stop him.

NBC, cancelling this series makes you the dumbest network in the world without a doubt. And with a network like Fox around, that saying something. Finally a comedy that's not too exaggerated stamper 20 August This is finally a show that is not only original in the way of it's comedy-style but also has a wide variety of characters although the comedy at the office or at work is not so original. The thing about this show is that it features extremely talented cast and apparently damn good writes.

Of the cast I like everyone, up front of course there is the always sarcastic Dave Foley. Then of course there are the slightly weird billionaire Jimmy James Stephen Root , the career-woman Lisa Maura Tierney the naive and unlucky Matthew Andy Dick , the always stuck up, mean, secure-of-himself and irritating Bill Phil Hartman , the always screwing something up, inventing or making a prank electric dude Joe Joe Rogan , the nosy and also slightly weird Beth Vicki Lewis and of course the character with the smallest part I guess the smart and always nice Catherine Khandi Alexander.

All of these characters are well delivered, plus the jokes they deliver are not too far fetched as they are in some other comedy's or in some films.

All in all, great acting and great jokes. A must see, so watch out for rebroadcasts of this series because the show was been terminated shortly after Phil Hartman had passed away and had been replaced and because I think the show died with Hartman, I'm not going to include Jon Lovitz in my comment either. She is known for slapping people at the drop of a dime, whether they deserve it or not. However, under her sometimes gruff exterior is a gentle understanding of the madness that can happen around the station.

Catherine has also been known to be a skilled con woman and has said that she used to work her uncle's Three Card Monty hustle during the summers in her youth. Despite having all of her co-workers call her Catherine, Jimmy is the only one who regularly calls her Cathy, a respect only he seems to have earned. When Jimmy originally created his "wife candidate list", she was originally on it, though after seeing the contempt she held for the idea, he crossed her name off.

One of the biggest flaws in her personality is that she can sometimes be impetuous, particularly when she is about to slap someone.

When Mr. James comes over to her to see if she can find out if Ruth's breasts are real, Catherine thinks Jimmy is asking her personally, to which she responds with a swift slap. After portraying the character for four years and seeing her presence on the show dwindle, Alexander wanted to leave NewsRadio to more dramatic roles. Her character was celebrated as well as finally given a plot to herself in, Catherine Moves On, which was in season four, episode seven, Catherine Moves On.

Each character gives their own interpretation of events to the owner of the station, Jimmy James, played by Stephen Root, that would have led to Catherine wanting to quit. Most of them believe it was something that they did to set her off and make her want to leave. In the end, it is revealed that she got a job offer to be the London Correspondent for a satellite news service and that she starts the next day.

The episode is a hysterical comedy and is really a great tribute to the character as well as the actress. The opening credits are even special to show all the times Catherine slapped her male co-stars and her interactions with her female co-stars.

It took Lovitz weeks to decide whether or not to accept the role of Max Lewis, the character that would replace his close friend and former SNL co-star.

Rob Schneider and Patrick Warburton were also considered to play Max. The edited version is on the DVD, while the unedited version made its way to syndication. Simms defended his show by pointing out that "Even in the most contemptuous relationship—like between Dave Foley's character and Phil Hartman's — Dave's always helping Phil save face. In response to the request , an episode was written where Mr. James bugs Lisa to stage a stunt wedding for the radio station. He infamously gave a profanity-laced interview to Rolling Stone in , near the end of the show's fourth season.
