Mercs will save your life here and there while Swiftness is good because Ashe can use all of the MS she can get. Every time I play Ashe, I get Swiftness and stay just out of enemy reach and I usually win by going glass cannon. Then again, I don't win as Ashe because I'm particularly good, I win because Ashe is one of the easiest champs to play. Also, PD sucks on Ashe.
If you get Swiftness you don't need it and the other stats sucks for Ashe; her Passive is not Tryndamere's Passive so there's no use in getting purely crt on her, although IE is so good at the moment that most people assume you build straight crit crit crit. Attack Speed also sucks on Ashe because Volley scales with Damage.
If enemies are catching up to you and you think that the extra mobility is going to help, sure get it, but don't get it for the sake of crit. Swiftness does suck on nearly every character, BUT it doesn't suck on Ashe.
